Port Union

Newfoundland shores welcome us, as abandoned structures echo voices of former prosperity.

Twilight Teal

Vibrant colours melt away as daylight slowly fades and takes its pause. Landscapes swept in monochromatic brushstrokes emerge through a filtered canvas. Breathe in the majesty and serenity as you bask in the twilight teal.

Tree of Life

Your water laden Westerlies rise and cool while making the long ascent over the Algonquin Dome. Life giving precipitation falls to be embraced by twenty-four drainage systems which feed the headwaters of seven pristine rivers; The Madawaska, Muskoka, Magnetawan, Amable du Fond, Petawawa, Bonnechere, and York Rivers. The tree of life spawns seven crystal clear waterfalls that flow from the highlands of Algonquin to nourish the rich and diverse ecosystem surrounding it.

The Protector

Waves of turmoil advance menacingly towards us. We brace ourselves against another challenge to our existence with resilience and determination. Stay calm in my presence, and be assured that the dark clouds of uncertainty will soon pass. You are safe. You are in the arms of the protector.

The Messenger

Messengers of different kinds deliver news that brings joy into our lives, but much too often they also come with news of loss and future suffering. The icebergs of the North Atlantic are awe inspiring, and a sight of natural beauty, but they are also messengers of a climate change that quite possibly could effect the globe we live on. Since 1979, when satellite record keeping began, Arctic sea ice has been disappearing, due to greenhouse gases, by about 38,000 square miles annually. The messenger will continue to knock on our doors, but whether we heed the warning and act is up to all of us. This is the challenge of The Messenger.

The Call

Shrill voices break the silence in haunting rhythms, through misty shrouds. Messengers struggle to be heard as they warn of threatened waters from skies overhead. Spread your wings, rise up, and heed the call.

The Art of Discovery STS – 42

This sculpture was created to honour Roberta Bondar’s accomplishments in space. Discovery is the shuttle name, and STS – 42 is the flight number when she became the first female Canadian in space.

Temagami Mist

Awaken before the rise of the sun. Listen through the ascending shroud for the call of the loon and the splash of the otter. Breathe in the early morn as paddle strokes caress placid waters, and absorb all that is offered in the Temagami mist.

Strong and Free

Our country, born of the Precambrian shield, and framed by majestic mountains ranges releases its natural wonders from the very fabric of the land. Lakes, rivers, and wetlands breathe the lifeblood into the nation, and form ancient paths used for millennia by our indigenous people. Continue to support inclusion and respect for all who are privileged to call Canada home, and take time to breathe in the true north strong and free.

Spirit Tree

May the stars carry your sadness away, May the flowers fill your heart with beauty, May hope forever wipe away your tears, and above all, may silence make you strong.

Quiet Moments

My red canoe has delivered me to this place of peace and tranquillity, where status has no value. Be alone with your thoughts. Reflect on the joys of being at one with nature, and breathe in the silence of quiet moments.

Night Draws Near

The intense light of day gives way to muted silhouettes, as scarlet hues sweep over these peaceful islands. Paddle strokes and the haunting call of the loon break the silence as night draws near.

Muskoka Magic

The Autumn leaves shiver with excitement. The Pines bow to the winds as they whicper their secrets. A distant Loon laughs in reply to the whispering winds, and the stoic Granite remains silent knowing it is the foundation of all that is Muskoka magic.

Mirror Lake

Calm waters reveal inverted images of crimson and emerald hues in playful juxtaposition. Reflect on your role in this dual reality. Be steadfast in your dreams, but mindful of others on your journey of inclusion and compassion. Remember to seek only the beauty in others, as you reflect and enjoy the tranquillity of Mirror Lake.

Manitoulin Moonlight

Dusk descends on all who dwell on this magical island. The fragile birch absorbs the fleeting warmth of sunlit days gone by. The lunar orb is illuminated by reflective light which guide nocturnal creatures to unknown shadows. Relax, reflect, and renew in the calming spirit of the Manitoulin moonlight.

Leeward Wind

Give thanks to those who direct you towards the light. Their strength and wisdom shape you in ways unknown to you now, but will come clear as you face the leeward wind.

L’Eau Dansante

Yield to me your secrets that I may know the storms I must endure. Yield to me your secrets that I may know the peace I may encounter. Yield to me your secrets that I may know the journey with faith and joy through the waves of my life.

Kayak Summers

Warmth caresses my soul through speckled shadows upon crystal waters. Silence reaches out to me as a gift from one who knows. Pine fresh visions guide me in directions yet to be discovered, as clouds of wispy textures float overhead. These are the pleasures of kayak summers.

Huron Shores

Breaking waves caress the inhabitants of distant shores in hypnotic rhythms.  Pebbles glisten and turn, becoming one with the smooth and rippled sand beneath them.  A lone Pine clings to all that supports it, and life continues on Huron’s shores.

Golden Ivory

Release yourself from the trap of materialism and superficial goals.  Rejoice in the sights, sounds, smells, and the touch of the sky, and all that lies beneath its gentle blanket.  Pause and admire the stand of Birch set in a forest  bathed in the fading light of milky and misty yellow hues.  Marvel at the simple complexity of golden ivory.

Diversity

Contrasting colours combine in a fleeting, ancient vision.  Whether we find ourselves in the shadows, or illuminated by the light, our island will anchor us all in strength, respect, and purpose.  Do not underestimate the power of diversity.

Cove Island Beacon

Stand above the world’s injustices and misguided leaders, and shine your light for others to follow.  Those who have lost their way will feel the warmth of your presence, and be lead to higher ground above stormy and turbulent waters. Seek out those who uplift and guide you to calm and safe harbours, like the reassurance of the Cove Island beacon.

Chrystal Silhouette

Trees melt from individual beacons to unified tree lines as daylight fades into night. The coolness of Autumn sprinkles frost’s paintbrush from branch to sunlit branch. One stands alone in strength and resolve to form a majestic chrystal silhouette.

Cedar Strip

Crafted from the forest, its gunnels and keel gleam with an artist’s touch.  Flashes of light across a mist soaked lake supply proof of its presence, as it glides and sways in a rhythmic dance.  Markings on a polished underbelly honour the rocky Algonquin and Temagami isles where sanctuary was sought for moments of reflection and sustenance, or protection from leeward winds. As stars appear and night draws near, I wait in anticipation for the coming dawn when once again I can share quiet moments alone with my cedar strip.

Canoe Point

I find my rest in silent choices.  Breathe in your surroundings, as your work is now done.  Listen to the stillness, and accept the gifts of canoe point.

Blue Mystique

I sit at the edge of day.  It is the beginning of night.  The sun exchanges places with the moon, and there is great stillness in the air.  The night is full of magic, but all that is heard is the echo of the loon’s call.  Blue Mystique envelopes those who will listen to the silence.  The silence that is you.

Awaiting Spring

Early snow brings pause to all who ply these waters.  The call of geese overhead reminds me of the passing season, and the gentle approach of the next.  Memories return to summer morns, and carefree paddles on mist shrouded lakes.  Without the return of melting warmth, we are only left awaiting spring.

Approaching Algonquin

When approaching Algonquin, the quiet hush of nature begins its descent upon me. I feel the ever increasing distance from stress, noise, pavement and concrete. The layers of life’s hectic pace are replaced by nature’s serenity as I approach Algonquin.

Amethyst Breezes

Another day draws to a close, as violet hues settle on rocky shores like dusk’s final shroud.  Reflect on the joys and accomplishments of the day gone by, and give thanks for those yet to come. Breathe in the calm, and release any burdens into the soothing arms of Amethyst breezes.

Alone

This island oasis shelters us from all distractions.  Far from constant connectiveness and worries brought on by leaders with misguided direction.  We rejoice in the blessing of this place, and give thanks in the knowledge that we are truly alone.

Secrets of the Wetlands

Look below the surface and discover a world unknown to those who pass by in haste. Skimming over life’s tapestry rewards few, but searching and opening oneself to self-discovery and endless possibilities enrich the souls of those who dare to challenge expected norms.  Seek what moves below still waters, and discover the networks and catacombs that past generations have entrusted to us.  Protect the creatures who inhabit these dark and mysterious pools from those who see them only as wastelands to be drained for profit.  Truly open your senses to the secrets of the wetlands.

A Forest’s Light

We are not alone in this forest of ever changing hues and varied depths of understanding. Images that challenge us sweep in on gentle breezes or forceful gusts, but the strength we absorb from others keeps us grounded. Reach up from the darkness, and be craddled in the branches of the forest’s light.

Reflections of Thomson

A young Tom Thomson living in urban surrounds, sought solitude in the majestic bluffs of Scarborough. Venturing further east he explored the calm of a lake named Scugog, where inspiration lead to the creation of Near Lake Scugog and Evening Lake Scugog. His gaze is distant, while his four legged companion’s is inward. Was this a sign of his bold interpretations of future northern landscapes? Look inward at your accomplishments and interactions that have proven to be a positive influence on the world, but also look ahead with determination and creativity for a future rich with a canvas filled with vibrant brush strokes. Could these be the lessons of Reflections of Thomson?

After the Storm

The calmness in the water of Lake of Two Rivers is interrupted by an approaching storm. The winds pick up with a sudden surge, wildlife seeks shelter in a frenzy of activity, and the skies open up with a burst of moisture. All around, the air is filled with a freshness that adds rich hues to the surrounding features. The raindrops on the branches descend slowly as if moved by unseen forces, and new life is spawned on the forest floor below. The calmness soon returns to the waters of Algonquin, and life begins again, after the storm.

Sunset Breezes

The sky is painted with crimson brush strokes, as the winds of haste fade to calm. Take pause from tasks that hinder your soul, and reflect on your growth and achievements. Know you have made a difference in the world in quiet and subtle ways. In ways that are hidden in the warm mist far from turmoil of the surface waves. Be still and absorb the rejuvenating spirit of sunset breezes.
