Canoe Series #45

This is the 45th sculpture in my Canoe Series. You will notice the edition number and my signature engraved on the back of the glass canoe. My Canoe Series started with a small edition of six in 2016, and there are now a total of forty-five in the growing edition. Number 45 was created in 2022, and it is the very first time in the Canoe Series that I have ever added a loon by attaching it to a foreground root. This gives the impression of it swimming peacefully by the front of the island. (I usually feature loons in my sculptures where the island is surrounded by water glass) It is also only the second canoe that I have created in a semi-transparent red glass, and the stone that I selected for this piece comes from beautiful Lake Temagami in Northern Ontario. I hope that it reminds you of paddling on your favourite lake or river whenever you view it. The piece, with its red canoe, really “comes to life” when placed by a window, but you probably already have a location in mind for it.

Your clear waters calm my soul with every stroke of my paddle. My red canoe is drawn to islands where solitude and reflection have sustained me through formative years. A father’s love of nature flows through my veins like warm Summer breezes, and lessons learned are appreciated with every sunset’s glow.  You are the catalyst that reunites long lost friends. You are Lac-du-Cerf.

  • Moonlight Embrace

We stand alone in silent reflection, remembering the day we have just shared. Each moment spent in appreciation for the presence of the other. Stars begin to scatter across a darkening sky, as rocky shores turn magically from solid monoliths to glassy, translucent points of light. The perfect ending to a day of discovery and love is captured in a moonlight embrace.

We raised our eyes, three years past, to ribbons of glorious light dancing on cobalt skies. Shimmering translucence scattering untold diamonds in reflections of yesterday. We shed tears for the indiscretions of men, but bathe in the goodness and comfort of those around us. Lift up your spirits in the presence of others, for the world is a wondrous place. Take time to bask in the glow of the celestial light.

Look below the surface and discover a world unknown to those who pass by in haste. Skimming over life’s tapestry rewards few, but searching and opening oneself to self-discovery and endless possibilities enrich the souls of those who dare to challenge expected norms.  Seek what moves below still waters, and discover the networks and catacombs that past generations have entrusted to us.  Protect the creatures who inhabit these dark and mysterious pools from those who see them only as wastelands to be drained for profit.  Truly open your senses to the secrets of the wetlands.
