I awaken to a world that allows me to focus on what is really important in my life. Creative images surround me, and fill my being. They want to leap and spin in a dance of colour, shape, and texture. It is so rewarding to realize that my destiny is mine to control in this awakening.
Shrill voices break the silence in haunting rhythms, through misty shrouds. Messengers struggle to be heard as they warn of threatened waters from skies overhead. Spread your wings, rise up, and heed the call.
Costello Lake sparkles in diamond luster as otters tease and falcons soar. Emerald forests surround this peaceful seclusion from all but those who traverse the water. Mothers and fathers taught respect for nature’s gifts, and were inspired by the underlying message of the loon and whispering pines. Granddaughters spoke in absence of their teachers, and proclaimed that, “Grandma and Grandpa would love this view!” A symbol was placed on a living beacon, and two seedlings were given life so that they would remain in this place of reverence forever. Our family gathers to remember them, and will always find strength and comfort in the cross.
This piece combines two drastically diverse elements. Those being the wonders of nature, and that of Human tragedy. Like all Canadians, I was shocked and Saddened by the senseless killing of four young RCMP officers in Mayerthorpe, Alberta in March 3rd of 2005. The spectacle of the red, swirling leaves that greeted Me while driving through Algonquin Parkin early October, reminded me of a whimsical musical ride by a multitude of unseen Mounties. If you look closely, you will see four slashes of red serge colour in my piece which proudly represents The Fallen. Anthony Gordon, Lionide Johnston, Brock Myrol, and Peter Schiemann’s sacrifice will never be Forgotten.
Temagami and Parry Sound bend, but do not yield to the roar and swirling clouds of this relentless dragon.
When life’s pathways take you into unexplained and troubled waters, search out diamonds and sunset glimmer. Follow the windswept ripples that lead to calm and reflective spaces. As day draws to a close, you will know you have chosen wisely through the passage.
Calm winds surround us as we share this peaceful place together. Like two windswept Pines, we occupy this spot for a brief moment in time. Be thankful recipients of this privilege, and faithful stewards of this rocky perch. Always remember that whether we arrive by canoe, or seeds on the wind, we are the visitors.
Paddle strokes heard through the morning mist foreshadow an artist in search of inspiration. Algonquin presents its gifts to all who are willing to receive. Some see landscapes in vibrant colours and bold brushstrokes, while others pass without thought. Be a painter with your presence. Protect the forest, and guide others to respect its treasures. Move slowly, and absorb the vistas before you. Take pause from devices that distract, and discover your inner Thomson.
The sun sets on this idyllic space, as we take pause and reflect on the relationships we continue to nurture, and those of a more fleeting nature.
Waves break to a primal heartbeat on Precambrain shores. Glacial hitchhikers continue their abrasive interactions in a never ending metamorphosis. Chrystal waters reflect skies of shimmering blue, while lush greens sway in gentle summer breezes. Cool crisp nights paint the moonlit foilage with strokes of scarlet and gold. A patchwork quilt soon blankets the landscape, and preparations abound for the silence of a winter’s slumber. When the soul of the land awakes, the warmth of spring once again releases the waves to spawn nature’s transitions.
